Specsavers expands recycling initiative to every UK store in partnership with MYGroup

by | Jun 10, 2026 | Press release, recycling

Specsavers has completed the nationwide rollout of its customer recycling initiative, making dedicated recycling collection points available in every UK store and significantly expanding access for customers looking to recycle optical products responsibly.

The initiative, delivered in partnership with MYGroup, allows customers to recycle unwanted glasses, sunglasses, cases, contact lens packaging, solution bottles and other optical waste, regardless of where the items were originally purchased. The expansion adds more than 300 stores to the scheme, ensuring customers across the UK can now participate in a convenient, circular recycling solution.

Originally launched in 2022, the programme has continued to grow as part of Specsavers’ wider sustainability strategy. Through the partnership, MYGroup collects and processes hard-to-recycle materials that would otherwise be destined for landfill or energy recovery, transforming them into valuable new products including durable boards, furniture components and other circular economy materials.

The impact of the scheme is already significant. During 2025 alone, 72 tons of material were collected and recycled across Specsavers stores and laboratories, demonstrating the growing appetite among consumers for practical recycling solutions for difficult-to-recycle products.

The full national rollout represents another important milestone in the partnership between MYGroup and Specsavers, helping to make responsible recycling more accessible while supporting the transition towards a more circular economy.

The nationwide rollout of the Specsavers recycling scheme demonstrates what can be achieved when retailers and recyclers work together to make sustainability simple for customers. Since launching the partnership in 2022, we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that convenient collection points can have on keeping valuable materials in circulation. We’re proud to support Specsavers in extending this initiative to every UK store and look forward to helping divert even more optical waste from landfill in the years ahead.

The expansion comes at a time when retailers are increasingly seeking practical, measurable ways to reduce waste and improve resource recovery. By providing customers with an easy route to recycle items that are often difficult to dispose of through conventional household recycling systems, the scheme helps ensure materials remain in use for longer and contribute to new manufacturing applications.

As MYGroup continues to develop innovative recycling and remanufacturing solutions, partnerships such as this demonstrate how businesses can work together to create meaningful environmental impact while making sustainable choices easier for consumers.
